BIO

Adriel earned a Bachelor of Music (Hons) degree from Universiti Sains Malaysia. He has since established himself as a drummer and percussionist, collaborating with various artists and ensembles throughout Southeast Asia. As an alumnus of the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Adriel has a deep appreciation for both classical and contemporary orchestral music.

One of his memorable performances was in June 2018, where he shared the stage with acclaimed jazz vocalist and songwriter Gabrielle Stravelli during the "America Days Sabah 2018" event organized by the US embassy in Sabah. Joining him were his brother Alton on the keys and Pat O’Leary on the double bass.

Adriel's talent also led him to the semi-finals of the International Jazz Battle in Bangkok in May 2019, hosted by Silpakorn University. He then participated in the One People Project by Artist Green in Tokyo, collaborating with musicians from various Asian countries, including Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Japan.

Alongside his brother Alton, Adriel co-founded the jazz ensemble "Kangkung Belacan," originally for a performance at the 2017 Malaysian Jazz Piano Festival’s young talent night. However, the group's success extended far beyond that initial purpose, and in September 2022, they proudly released their debut album titled "Time and Tune." Kangkung Belacan-Time and Tune.

In 2020, Adriel joined the WVC Jazz Ensemble as their drummer and recorded the album "Purnama", where they put a unique spin on Malayan and Malaysian tunes. This album showcased the exceptional skills of Malaysia's finest musicians. https://www.wvcjazz.com/music

Throughout his career, Adriel has had the pleasure of collaborating with numerous notable artists, both locally and internationally, such as Hakan Rydin, Tay Cher Siang (WVC jazz ensemble), Michael Veerapan, Yuna, Gabrielle Stravelli, Patrick O’Leary, Winnie Ho, Janet Lee, Yuki Arimasa, Zee Avi, Don Bowyer, Chi-Pin Hsieh, Kai-Ya Chang, Seiichi Fukuyama, AJ 'popshuvit', and The Shang Sisters(group).
